2. ICA LA x El Clasificado

ICA LA x El Clasificado
was part of ICA LA’s Agency of Assets community engagement program. A zine was designed for this specific exhibition.

The El Classificado newsstand project was featured in the space of the museum with students’s personal zines and documentation of their performances. Copies of Behind the Zines were produced as a recap of this small series. The  publication was available for visitors to take.

Agency of Assets is a seven-month fellowship program for area teens to explore leadership in the creative sector through sustained mentorship, hands-on experiences, and employment opportunities in the arts. Fellows worked full-time summer positions at Hauser & Wirth, Self Help Graphics, Now Art LA, LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, Casa Fina Restaurant/CASA 0101, Vincent Price Art Museum, The Mistake Room, and Ball-Nogues Studio.

El Clasificado is a newsstand-turned-gallery created by Pamela Ramos in 2018. The art space hosts various artists ranging in medium, location, and duration. Projects explore notions of ownership, public space, institutional critique, community, and other relational topics. The original publication, El Clasificado, is a resource newspaper with classified ads that serve Spanish-speaking communities throughout the United States. The newsstand was initially found outside El Changarro Market in Los Angeles.

Behind The Zines  (zine / poster)  — is 8.5 x 5.5 inch publication. The publication folds open three times resizing the zine into three different sizes. The first spread introduces the project, while the second recaps student shows. In the last unfold the publications can be flipped, thus making it into a 18 x 23.3 inch poster. Portions of the poster were also used for online promotions.
